What kind of soap do window cleaners use?
+Dish soap is the best additive to water for window cleaning. Dawn, Palmolive, Joy...they all serve the same functions. When cleaning windows, the soap is used to produce a nice smell and provides suds so the window cleaner can visually see the areas that still need to be cleaned. Mostly though, the soap removes the friction away from between the glass and the squeegee rubber. Putting too much soap in the water will cause the window to dry faster. A tablespoon or two per gallon should be perfect depending on the soap you are using and how concentrated it is.
There are other additives that window cleaners may use. Some are used when the weather is cold to prevent the water from icing. Other agents are used to keep the window wetter longer or make it so the water does not evaporate as fast. This help when it is hot outside.
-
How often should I have my windows cleaned?
+We recommend that windows are cleaned at a minimum once a year. Preferably at least twice a year. Clean windows is the primary reason that residence may have their windows washed, but more important cleaning also lubricates the rubber weather stripping or seals. Once the seal breaks, the glass inbetween panes will escape and moisture can enter. Your windows will never look the same again.
-
How do you clean windows with no streaks?
+Windows streak for a few different reasons. The first thing you should check is the squeegee rubber blade. If the blade gets worn from washing windows, you can replace the squeegee rubber or flip the rubber over and use the other side. A nice blade will make sure that the squeegee removes all the water and impurities from the glass. Make sure that your squeegee channel is not bent also. If it is bent, you may see where some of the water is left on the window after moving it across the glass.
The other thing you want to watch for is cleaning windows in the sun when the glass is hot. The heat will evapurate the water faster and if your not quick, you will see streaking. Dont' put too much soap! Soap makes the water dry and evaporate faster.
-
How do I remove calcium from windows?
+Calcium is mainly the result of sprinklers and hard water deposits. Calium gets into the pores of the glass and causes corrosion. The first thing that you want to do is determine how advanced the corrosion is. If you can feel it with your nails, there is a good chance you will need an acidic treatment that will remove the corrosion. if you don't feel the corrosion with your finger, you may be able to remove it with a more mild treatment. #0000 steell wool is the best to use. You can polish windows and frames without scrathing the surface. You can use razor blades to knock down the heavier build up. Be careful not to scratch the windows. Always use the blade in one direction and always with a wet window.
-
What is a broken window seal and what does it look like?
+The rubber weather stripping or seals on windows expand and contract depending on the outside temperature. If your seals are dried they can crack during the expansion and contraction. When the sun is directly on the glass, the window gets hot and can even melt the internal seals. When the seals go bad, the gas between the window panes will escape and moisture will enter whenever there is condensation outside. The condensation inside the window will eventually dry leaving behind what looks like a dirty or streaky window.

How do window cleaners price a window cleaning job?
+Window cleaning is priced based on a few different factors. Do you have a single level or mulit story home? This will determine how to access the windows and if any ladders or poles are needed to perform the cleaning. If your home has sunscreens there is usually an additional charge for cleaning. Once a plan of service has been established then a cleaner can estimate how long the job might take. As a rule of thumb, many cleaners either use a window count or a square footage to provide an over the phone estimate. The best way to get the best pricing is to let a cleaner visit the property and evaluate the job as well as determine the depth of cleaning that is needed. If a cleaner has to remove debris such as paint overspray, this could add time and processes to the cleaning. There is an upcharge for this. Determine condition of screens and determine the best method for cleaning can all add up. Rule of thumb, we typically will estimate $0.06-0.08 per square foot for a single level and $0.08-0.12 per square foot for multi story homes. Screens are usually $2-$6 per screen depending on size for basic cleaning. Deep cleaning of tracks with detail brush and vacuum is around $2 per track.
Professional window cleaners can provide spotless windows around your home. Window cleaning not only removes the dirt and grime from the glass, but also lubricates and removes unwanted corrosion from your windows as well. Using soap and water together with a squeegee and mop will produce perfect results everytime if performed correctly. Tips and tricks to window cleaning comes in time and experience. Cleaning windows in the sun is the most difficult. The windows get hot and evaporate the soapy water leaving traces of streaks. It is also a good idea to clean the tracks in your home. Deep cleaning of the window tracks will allow the window to open and close properly. Over time it gets pretty nasty in there. Hiring a professional will save you time and frustration. If your looking for a local window cleaner or a window cleaner in Scottsdale or North Phoenix, call Dirty Boys!
